Use a Taser Safely or Not At All
- Keep out of the reach of children. When at home, store your taser like you would any other weapon, locked away from children and not "loaded". Some women will carry their C2 taser in a purse or briefcase (in states where it's legal) be sure that your children will never find it there.
- Never point your taser if you don' t mean to fire. A taser is not a toy, it's a weapon with the capability of inflicting a lot of pain. There are many laws throughout the country that deal with people who use tasers inappropriately.
- Learn
to judge 15 feet. It's farther away than most people expect. Use a
tape measure and never fire your taser at someone more than 15 feet
away. Fifteen feet is the maximum range of the tasers currently available to the public - the C2 and the Advanced M18L and even though your taser has stun gun capability as a back up, firing from 20 feet renders the unique advantages of a taser- useless. The idea range is 7-10 feet. When you fire within a closer range the twin darts will not have an adequate distance to spread properly and distribute their charge.
- Never fire a taser in the presence of flammable substances.
- Never fire a taser at someone who is in the water as they could easily drown. Consider this point carefully since the chances that you're facing a serious threat from someone who is in the water are not too likely - again we stress this is a serious weapon and not a toy to be used carelessly. There could be a terrible price to pay for foolishness.
- Always keep your fingers away from the front of the weapon.
- Replace the batteries if the signal is low. Like anything else that is important to your well being, keep your taser in a state of good repair.
- Ideal
target range is 7-10 feet. Maximum range is 15 ft. Always fire when
your attacker is at least 3 feet away, in order to allow the probes to
spread apart and inject the t-waves into a greater area of the target.
- Hold the Taser out in front of you with the top line level to the ground and the elbow slightly bent at about mid-chest. Do not hold your taser sideways or the probes will not deploy properly and you could easily miss.
- Do not fire straight from the shoulder as it tends to make you aim high. when you buy your taser consider purchasing and extra cartridge to practice firing before you really need to.
- Aim for the center of the chest. It's the largest target on the body and the most effective place to hit with a taser.
- Once you have aired your weapon and your assailant is on the ground, put the taser down and LEAVE . You have absolutely no reason to stick around so don't. When your taser is fired it will littler the scene with small confetti like papers which carry information that will allow the police to trace the owner of the weapon that was fired. Don't worry about losing your Taser as there is a lifetime replacement guarantee from Taser International that states that if you fire your taser in self defense and you can back that up with a police report, they will replace your taser .
