I think these products are a no-brainer.  They cost very little.  They hurt absolutely no one.  And even though you can't expect that people will automatically come running to your aid, they're a clear call for help.  It wouldn't stop me screaming, as well.  I figure the total effect of an alarm and a scream would be greater than the sum of the parts.  I also think that these are good products for people who hike, or camp or are vulnerable to being lost in the wilderness.
